In Partnership with System Store Solutions
The Client & Challenge
This multi-faceted project was for 4PX, a global e-commerce and logistics company. They required two two-tiered mezzanine structures fitted with enclosed fire staircases and escape corridors, as well as a fire compartment wall dividing their warehouse which would slow the spread of fire if an incident was to occur. The surrounding area of the site was for racking space. This will be extended to the area underneath the mezzanine structures after they have been installed. One of the mezzanines would also have to permit space for a conveyor system.
We were required to install our spacing solution(s) around live operation as the site was already being used as part of their supply chain (*Note, this project is still in progress).
The Criteria
- The final requirements of the project were as follows (an accumulative combination of all aspects):
- 2000m² fire protection compartment wall
- 13,500m² mezzanine floor space
- 4.8kN/m² live load
- Ancillaries: 980m edge protection, 6 pallet gates, 5 full height staircases and 3 staircases running from floors one and two.
The Solution and Result
To successfully install the structures, we will continue to work closely with the racking installers and end-user to ensure that all phases of the wider project’s development can be installed on time whilst not interfering with regular business operations. The raised height of the first floor(s) permits further racking to be installed underneath as well as alongside our structure(s). Whilst our 60-minute fire enclosed corridors and staircase will help keep people safe on the mezzanines, and the large fire compartment wall will also achieve 60-minutes fire protection; achieving the client’s requirement to considerably slow down the spread of potential fires.
