Team BRIT Expands Workshop Space with Mezzanine Flooring

The Challenge

A branch of the charity Kart Force, Team BRIT inspires people with disabilities, PTSD and mental health issues by demonstrating what can be achieved through motor-sport.  Team BRIT aims to be the first ever all-disabled team to take part in the world famous Le Mans 24hr endurance race.

The team uses world-leading hand control technology to allow its disabled drivers to compete equally with able-bodied drivers.  It aims to revolutionise the motor-sport industry and to show injured military personnel & disabled people that they can achieve what they never thought possible.

As Team BRIT grow and undertake more exciting challenges, they were beginning to reach their site’s capacity and wanted to utilise their vertical space. Hi- Level were approached and we were delighted to help optimise their current workshop with a mezzanine area for additional storage.

The Criteria

Team BRIT required a mezzanine to be seamlessly integrated in their current workshop. The new floor space had to enable shelving and the storage of various car parts.

The final requirements of the project were detailed as follows:

  • 12.3m x 6.6.m Mezzanine Floor Area
  • Clear Ground Floor Staircase Access
  • High Point Loads

The Solution and Result

The mezzanine extension was a successful one-day installation, causing minimal disruption to Team BRIT. The flooring consisted of our quality particle board, a versatile decking suitable for most storage applications. This was complemented by a powder coated staircase for a highly durable, aesthetic finish and equipped with handrails for full functional use in the workshop.

By working closely with our client in the details and specifications of the design, we were able to deliver the perfect solution in doubling their floor space and providing them operational access on both the ground floor and the mezzanine. We ensured the installation was completed securely as Team BRIT carried out further refurbishment in their workshop.

We were pleased to have provided a mezzanine floor to the complete satisfaction of Team BRIT and fulfil all their specifications.

Dave Player, Team BRIT CEO & Founder Comments:

“Team BRIT took another major step forward by securing our own workshop, rather than paying companies to provide us with their services.  As we are growing so fast, we needed to plan for when we take on our next race car, which requires more workshop space.  This is where Hi-Level came to our rescue by offering their expertise and building the extra floor space we need.  We are totally chuffed with our new mezzanine addition to our garage! It looks amazing and has created so much extra floor space. We’re very thankful to Hi-Level who expertly installed this in a flash. Thank you very much – we have room to grow and to a bigger and better Team BRIT now!”

Floor And Fit Out Inside A London Railway Arch

The Challenge

To supply, deliver and install a single tier mezzanine floor and fit out the inside of a railway arch in London.

The Criteria

The Client required a mezzanine floor, suspended Ceiling, fascia and Fire Lobby around the staircase. The build had to include 2 offices at ground floor plus access for fork trucks. There would be a further 2 offices on the mezzanine floor plus an open plan office and computer cupboard. They required lighting and electrics to the first floor and ground smoke detection. Due to being in a railway arch they also needed fresh air to internal offices. The build was to be finished off with carpets, recessed floor boxes for power/data to the open plan office area and a new WC to the rear of the arch.

The Solution

Hi-Level were chosen based on previous experience ”Having worked together on several mezzanine projects we knew Hi-Level had the expertise to provide a turnkey solution. Having a single point of contact for all the trades was essential to the smooth running and accuracy of the project. Creating an office and storage solution in such a unique space meant the client needed an experienced team, and together we were able to provide that”,said the distributors Project Manager.

Hi-Level and their distributor worked together on the complex task of cutting in the partition stud wall into the curvature of the railway arch. The project had to be undertaken with careful planning and organisation due to limited space available to form the required offices whilst still give access for fork trucks underneath the mezzanine to the storage area at the back of the arch.

The Result

The mezzanine floor was completed in February 2014 after 4 weeks onsite. The project was completed on time and within budget. The Hi-Level, Project Manager said ‘The key element on this project was in the pre-installation design work to ensure that we could provide the required working area’s  for the client, within the limited space available of the railway arch”.

Production Floor For The Meantime Brewing Company

Meantime Brewing

Meantime Brewery was founded in 2002 in Greenwich, London. The company is now one of the UK’s largest craft brewers and still continues to make its beers in the same way, having built a state-of-the-art brewery in 2010.

The Project

Following exponential sales growth, Meantime Brewing needed to double its production, so they asked a Hi-Level Mezzanines distributor to investigate installing a mezzanine floor to increase capacity at their brewery.

The distributor together with Hi-Level Mezzanines, consulted with Meantime Brewing to came up with an optimum design that took into account the unique requirements and challenges posed by the site.

The main challenge was the client’s program for the refit of the brewery which involved relocation of the bottle and keg filling lines and the fit out for additional brewing tanks in an adjacent building. It also entailed the inclusion of a new sloped concrete and tiled floor to facilitate drainage of liquids into central drainage gullies.

As the fit out already had a tight program scheduled, which meant interruption to the clients production for a period, the mezzanine build had to fit into key stages of the whole project.

This entailed initially building the mezzanine frame to enable the new concrete floor to be laid over the baseplates of the mezzanine (which needed to be sat on a level slab), then part of the frame was removed to allow access to install the large brewing tanks. This was achieved by designing sleeved removable mezzanine columns, leaving the lower mezzanine column sections in situ buried in the new slab.

Further key stages of the build entailed phased installation of the remaining mezzanine parts to fit in with the relocation of the production machinery.

The Results

The mezzanine floor provides Meantime Brewery with an additional 214 square metres storage space.

It was imperative that there were no delays that might hold up brewery production, Hi-Level and their distributor completed the project both within the strict deadline and within budget.
