If you’ve been thinking that mezzanines are only for warehouses, (can we respectfully suggest you) think again!
Mezzanines have brought game-changing benefits to companies with big ambitions in multiple industries, cutting costs and reducing hassle when they are expanding, improving productivity and making space for automation.
They allow organisations of many stripes to make the best use of their vertical space, maximising capacity with minimal disruption.
So whatever your sector, consider a mezzanine.
Unusual mezzanines for high dining
Deployed far wider than in warehousing, mezzanines take a leading role in some unusual projects.
At Luton Airport, for example, a mezzanine floor overlooking the departure lounge is key to a new two-storey restaurant with space for up to 500 diners, part of a £30 million investment to enhance the passenger experience.
In a similar vein, at Hi-Level Mezzanines we have created a café on a viewing platform for climbing venue Rockstar Climbing in Swindon, offering spectators the chance to relax and enjoy a snack while watching family and friends on the bouldering walls. Rockstar has been able to increase its footprint and spectators now feel more part of the action in this thrilling facility, where we installed the mezzanine in just two days.

Mezzanines for sustainable showrooms
At the Toyota Motor Corporation Headquarters in Aichi, Japan, a mezzanine incorporates solar panels and energy-saving lighting to emphasise energy efficiency and align with the manufacturer’s environmental initiatives. Again, at IKEA Headquarters in Älmhult, Sweden, a mezzanine constructed from recycled materials functions as a showroom, demonstrating sustainability and reflecting the company’s commitment to eco-friendly design.
Another mezzanine showroom is the heart of a spectacular project Hi-Level Mezzanines carried out for film industry prop-hire specialists Granger Hertzog, allowing its discerning clients to choose from an impressive collection of pieces from around the world. We designed and installed a mezzanine for the company’s wide catalogue of products, as well as room for clients to collaborate with the Granger Hertzog team and logistics space. The company was delighted with “Hi-Level’s great workmanship.”
A similarly beautiful mezzanine, with a sleek glass balustrade in the main retail showroom, was installed by our team at Absolute Music’s 14,000 square foot superstore in Bournemouth. We were delighted to work with one of the UK’s leading retailers of specialist recording and musical equipment, and thrilled when the company was effusive in its praise: “This project has run smoothly and delivered us a showroom we are proud of. We are very pleased with the results”.
Mezzanines for arts and culture
From music shops and “rock” climbing to a rock music legend … in Greece we built a stage for Elton John at a shipping tycoon’s island villa. Hi-Level Mezzanines designed a two-tier mezzanine to cover the swimming pool to bring the site up to one level, with columns on the base of the pool. We added a stage area where Elton performed, all clad to match the style of the villa.

When it comes to the arts, a new mezzanine floor is one of the most significant elements of the £ multi-million restoration of Bolton’s historic library, complementing the heritage building and offering more space for community and wellbeing groups. Hi-Level Mezzanines has installed a transformative mezzanine for the Performance Preparation Academy, a musical theatre college in Guildford, Surrey. The mezzanine supports multiple studios and provides great space for students during their lectures, seminars and rehearsals. This project presented a real technical challenge, solved by our structural engineers devising a creative solution with smaller beams for better weight distribution.
Mezzanines for retail flagships
Renowned architect Frank Gehry used staggered mezzanines around a central atrium for the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, described as a “sleight of hand” allowing the charity to claim the building is just one storey tall – despite rising 50 metres into the air! He is also said to be planning a mezzanine level in the design for the upcoming Louis Vuitton flagship store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Another retail giant, Amazon, is the proud owner of a facility with the largest mezzanine floor globally. The Amazon Fulfilment Center is Shakopee, Minnesota, boasts a 1.3 million square foot mezzanine used for inventory storage – exemplifying industrial-scale vertical expansion. Google’s Googleplex campus in Mountain View, California, on the other hand, showcases a creative mezzanine designed to resemble a giant treehouse, offering employees an inspiring workspace that merges technology with nature.
Mezzanines for leisure
In the world of leisure, a recent trend is mezzanines in gyms. Hi-Level Mezzanines is a specialist in this arena, bringing structural engineering expertise to produce specific designs for different gym environments and floor loads, depending on whether the space will be used for cardio, for group activities or for free weights.. We have also added mezzanines to school sports halls to make space for computer rooms – more proof that mezzanines offer ultimate flexibility.
We are definitely not just for warehouses!
