What a year 2022 has been! Hi-Level Mezzanines has won our biggest-ever project, brought in a raft of talented new staff, been a prize-winner at a top UK trade show and shone in our ESG work.
In the words of Managing Director Angus Whiteman: “Again our exceptional staff have risen to every challenge with spirit and humour as the global economy rebounded after the pandemic. It has been exciting to view the ambition of many UK-based companies to redesign their supply chains and invest in infrastructure to future-proof their growth, and at Hi-Level we are primed to answer market demands for larger and more complex mezzanine floor designs. We have completed a number of large projects for well-known UK brands, many incorporating our robot-ready solutions to meet the constant drive by companies investing in automation to deliver efficiencies.”
We completed 300 projects this year – standout among them our £7.5m design and installation for a leading UK retailer. This involved multiple-tier mezzanines totalling 44,000 sq. m to support automation including robots. We’ll be revealing more about this in 2023, but suffice to say at this point that it has been a hugely exciting project that has required exceptional structural engineering skills and been a joy to work on.
As we continue to invest and expand, seven new staff have joined the Hi-Level team, including two at director level. They are (take a bow) our new Business Development Director, Director of Operations, two Project Managers, Business Development Manager, Purchasing Assistant, and Receptionist.
Incredible buzz
Landmark events have included the International Material Handling Exhibition (IMHX) at the NEC in Birmingham – where an incredible buzz surrounded our stand at the UK’s premier event for those at the heart of supply chain and logistic operations. We had a team of five at the show and were delighted to win an exhibitor award for the excitement we generated. More recognition came when we were nominated for the UK Warehouse Association awards in the Best New Member category. We may be new to UKWA, but our 30 years of expertise in mezzanines and exceptional reputation in the sector earned us this much-appreciated accolade.
When it comes to ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), we passed the milestone of 500,000 miles driven by our company fleet of electric Teslas (that’s the equivalent of driving 20 times around the world) which would have been a lot of tanks of petrol and CO2 emissions.
Our charity fund-raising activities included a McMillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning, Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children and a Reverse Advent Calendar – whereby instead of receiving a little gift every day, we made donations to a local food bank. Serving clients better
We also asked staff members for their personal highlights. Senior Structural Engineer and Project Manager Glenn O’Reilly and Victoria Steel-Page, our Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Co-ordinator, both chose examples of Continuous Professional Development (investing in training is an important way we skill-up our team to keep serving our clients better): Glenn obtained his professional Diploma in Project Management in May and used one of Hi-Level’s live projects in Liverpool as a case study for the final assignment, while Victoria was thrilled to achieve her IOSH Managing Safely certificate.
Sales Director Chris Baxter picked attending the IMHX show, due to the fantastic buzz around the show and the return of in-person events.
Making great use of space
More projects we have loved in 2022 include:
- A much-needed mezzanine floor installed in less than three weeks.
- Making great use of the full height of a building in West Yorkshire.
- And 1700 sq. m of extra space for a games company.
Looking ahead, we have two large projects completing this month (with more details to follow in January) – a £400,000 project in Dorset and a £800,000 design and installation in Bedfordshire.
2023 promises to be eventful, too!
